In the above photo, one can see Mike Ruiz (right) and myself. On the date of Saturday March 27th, the Middle Eastern Unity club held a car wash in order to raise funds for club purposes. Nayiri B. =) asked me the day prior to help and I agreed. I arrived at about 10:00 a.m. and left around 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Wilcox and other students were also there to help wash cars. In approximation, there were a total of about 15 cars and at a rate of $5.00 per wash (plus tips), we made about $150. We definitely counted that as a success :). I now know that the term ‘car wash’ is much more than just washing cars. This joint activity requires patience, teamwork, and physical strength. About midway, we all pitched in for pizza while rotating shifts of washing. The system was broken down into 3 components: a) rinse - b) scrub and soap down - and c) rinse and dry. Working collaboratively was fun and we achieved our goal.

The above pictures are of me assembling clothes for the Journalism Stussy Sale. Upon entering the large parking lot of Charter Oak, Mrs. Bauer and the woman in charge of the sale event asked that we post ourselves around the confines of the shopping area. We did this in order to supervise and make sure no one stole any of the merchandise. I arrived at about 9:00 a.m. and worked until 3:00 p.m. The day passed rather quickly because fellow students and friends were working as well. Towards the end of the day, the woman in charge asked if we would all start packing up at around 2:00. I must say that the physical work load largely increased! The other students and i lifted the enormous bags of clothes and assembled them near the trucks for the other workers to load. Also, a student by the name of Wesley Lau helped me to take down the metal stands on which the clothes hung. Concerning my strengths and weaknesses, I now know that I need much more muscle. The hard work and physical labor was an eye opening experience, meaning that I need much more of it! The challenges include endurance, lifting heavy objects, and communication. I’ve shown perseverance by leaving the event twice and happily returning both times to participate until the end of the sale. I’ve worked collaboratively with other students in working with the sale; arranging and supervising for the woman in charge. Some moral implications with what I’ve done are being courteous and humble. An example is that whenever I saw a piece of clothing on the floor, I took the initiative to pick it up (seriously :] ) and I heard rumors that if we work until 3:00 p.m., everyone would be able to choose a t-shirt of their choice (we were allowed to :D )
